PORTLAND, Oregon

Portland’s motto is “Keep Portland Weird” and if you’ve ever seen the TV show Portlandia you might have an idea about the cool bookshops, brunches, restaurants and microbreweries, and they aren’t wrong. I’ve lived in NYC, Seattle, LA and Prague and I chose to live in Portland because it has the entertainment and foodieness those major cities have with nature and a neighborhood feel. We are also surrounded by iconic TV and movie locations. There’s tons of outdoor stuff to go on adventure dates like hiking, skiing, floating, kayaking, swimming and waterfalls are a dime a dozen.

Guidebook

Check out our guidebook or instagram for our favorite Portland restaurants, bars, dispensaries, suggested day and 1/2 trips as well as iconic TV and Movie locations near by.

PORTLANDIA

Yes, Schitt’s Creek is our obsession, but Portlandia is also our jam. There are a few filming locations that you can walk to from The RoseBud and you can easily jump around to 18 of the locations for a 1/2 day (there are a few outside of the City which might take a little more time to get to). We made you a map of the 21 locations we know about, so check it out and put a bird on it!

Stay in

When you’re not out exploring Portland, play Schitt’s Creek Monopoly, rock out on the Playstation 2 Guitar Hero or watch TV on the ROKU TV which has Prime Video, Starz, Showtime, Hulu, Paramount + CBS, and HBOMAX and don’t forget the bathrobes and lap trays for lounging.

Dog Bébés

We love dog bébés and don’t charge a pet fee! Portland is extremely dog friendly. Many restaurants allow dogs on their patios and there are tons of dog parks. The International Rose Test Garden is also dog friendly. Check out our guidebook for more dog friendly options and recommendations.

You’ll find dog bowls and a dog bed in the room.

Dogs do need to be potty trained to stay and we have a 2 dog limit. Dog’s are not allowed to poop or pee in the guest suite or in the courtyard. EW, David!

EXtra clean

Your hosts and our staff are fully vaccinated and boosted against COVID19. We’re taking extra precautions and making sure the suite is super clean before guests arrive. All surfaces and anything someone might touch is sanitized. We wear masks and gloves when we are cleaning your place and make sure to pay extra attention to disinfecting any areas that may have been touched like door knobs, handles, light switches, and handles. We also offer complimentary travel sized hand sanitizers in your munchies basket. Two hand sanitizer pumps are also available at the entrances.

All sheets and linens including 2 mattress covers and 2 pillow covers and 2 pillow cases cases are fresh for you.

Cutlery, Fiestaware plates and bowls (toaster oven safe!), napkins, chop sticks and soy sauce bowls are sealed after cleaning and mugs and glassware are wrapped in paper to guarantee cleanliness.

I’m Timoney, RoseBud’s freelance brand invigorator, VP of marketing and communications, and SVP and CEO of in-house publicity and this is my mom Barbara, who is in training to be CEO of executive buying. We are also a family run business! We work the ‘front desk’ at The RoseBud & Barkfest, I’m a big Schitt’s Creek fan and I even have a flock of Chicken Schitt’s in the backyard named after the characters. Check out the Chicken Schitt’s page to learn all about them.

When I bought the house the Airbnb space was not so cute and I started hunting for materials to see if I could remodel it to look like the Rosebud Motel. My mom and a few extra hands helped me bring that vision to life. I’m super proud of how it turned out! Check out the remodel tab for more details on the transformation. I didn’t have much luck finding that wallpaper for the bathroom but I’ll keep looking or make something myself!

I’ve always dreamed of having a k9 and pot positive spot for travelers. I’m a major global traveler myself and I appreciate the nice extras like bathrobes, giant towels, non-contact self-check in stays and not worrying that I’ll be arrested for smoking a jay while cuddling with my jet setting dog. I wanted to bring those luxuries to others, so here we are, no longer toweling the door. This side hustle helps me take care of my co-hosting mom, who I rescued from a horribly uncaring senior apartment complex in upstate New York during the pandemic. She lives in the apartment next door, but keeps to herself and I live upstairs. In my other life, I work as a TV & Film bonus content producer, so this passion project is like my day job but IRL.

Say hey or don’t, it’s all cool.

BEFORE

The RoseBud & Barkfest remodel has been a labor of love! The first thing that was done in the room was the Moira wig wall. I picked some of my favorite wigs throughout the series and gave them haircuts to mimic the look in those episodes. You’ll recognize Moira’s wigs from The Crowening, Ronnie’s Party, Murder Mystery and Smoke Signals. Then after endless hours of searching I found the curtains and had them altered to be shorter. The third, more permanent step, was the turquoise brick wall. Figuring out how to make a brick wall that appeared to have stacked bricks instead of a running bond pattern was the most challenging part. I didn’t want to tile the wall and I wasn’t able to find a stacked pattern foam sheets so I ended up cutting each row of the foam bricks and lining them up correctly on the wall. Then we painted them brick red and then turquoise (If you look closely on the show some red pops out!). One morning I was up until 5am finishing the wall, as guests were scheduled to check in that afternoon and I couldn’t leave it unfinished.

I used wood flooring for the wood paneling and had to hunt forever to find the striped gold/cream wallpaper. I tried to get as close as possible to David’s white with black stripe bedding and the floral greenish curtains like the ones in the office. I looked everywhere for a new bed frame like the ones in the hotel but no luck. My friend, Jacque, pointed out that the side of my shelving unit was a bigger version of the pattern so I took it apart and spray painted it for the headboard. I also spray painted the light fixtures from silver to black so they would match better. I opted to keep the furniture and cabinets black rather than redo everything in white, for now at least. I couldn’t find a boat painting so I found a paint by numbers that was really close, boy those take forever! I tracked down the prop house in Canada that the show used and I begged them to sell me 2 of the gold flower pictures that we see above David and Alexis’ beds but they sadly said no. I’ll probably try to recreate those at some point too because I still obsess about them. I found an antique mirror and painted it gold and I also bought the same outdoor chairs from Canada! We’re still working on the bathroom remodel, it’s gonna happen, happen sometime, but we got lucky that the original wall color was the same color as the bathroom tile in the show.

I’m hoping to have a Schitt’s Creek town mural done in the courtyard this summer.

Check out our remodel highlight on instagram to see the space transform through videos and time lapse.

The chicken schitts

Chicken Schitt’s eggs from left to right - Moira, Alexis and Twyla, Stevie, & Roland

The 8 Chicken Schitt’s, Moira, Alexis, Twyla, Stevie, Roland, Johnny, David and Patrick were born May 24th, 2021 at McMurray Hatchery in Webster City, Iowa. I pre-ordered the chicks that January based on the egg color they would lay, whether they could be ‘guaranteed’ hens and not roosters, breed temperament, and how pretty or unique they would be with one surprise unsexed chicken in the mix. I named them after the characters the first day they arrived. This was my first time raising chickens and I raised them in my laundry for the first 8 weeks. They now live in a chicken mansion in our backyard Warner Farms.

ALEXIS

Alexis is a Golden Wyandotte. This breed originated in Wisconsin and they called them Winnebagoes at first. Alexis is by far the bitchiest chicken and head hen. She’s still pissed at Moira for laying the first egg. Alexis came in 3rd place in the ‘who will lay first’ competition and lays brown eggs.

MOIRA

Moira is a Crevecoeur, which is a super rare all black breed named after the city of Crèvecœur en Auge in Normandy, France. “Crève Cœur” translates to ‘broken heart’. The global population is less than 1,000 birds. She was the runt of the chicks and still is. The other Schitts still pick on her a bit, but even though this breed is not typically raised for their eggs she was the first to lay an egg and she consistently lays cream colored eggs that my mom insists are pink. She is striking, but don’t tell Alexis. Her feathers are iridescent and her head feathers are so cute. She’s my favorite and perfectly Moira.

STEVIE

Stevie is an Ameraucana, but I still sometimes think she was switched at birth. She was second to last to lay her green egg, but on her third she gave us a double yolker. She could really care less about me and certainly doesn’t want to be pet. She’s the biggest Chicken Schitt of the flock.

TWYLA

Twyla is a Columbian Wyandotte. The breed is named after the place they were first exhibited, Columbian Exposition in Chicago in 1893. Twyla isn’t the type to ruffle feather and I always thought she was Alexis’ sidekick until today, when she beat the schitt out of her. She was the second to start laying her brown eggs.

ROLAND

Roland is a Whiting True Blue and somewhat of a buttaface. She has a muff and maybe a beard and tends to look so doofy its cute. She also has these gorgeous lavender gray butt feathers that complement her orange feathers which have a beautiful pattern when you look closely. This is a newish breed of chicken named after their developer poultry geneticist, Dr. Tom Whiting. You never know what they will end up looking like as they have varying feather patterns, coloration, and leg colors across the breed. Roland was the last to lay her beautiful powder blue eggs.

JOHNNY

Johnny was the surprise chicken and turned out to be a Golden Polish and a very sexy looking chicken! European and English breeders as long ago as the mid 1800's perfected this breed. He was the first to crow and had to go. Roosters aren’t allowed in Portland, not to mention, we wouldn’t want our guests to be disturbed by early morning crowing. He also started roughing up the ladies so I found a family on a farm in eastern Oregon about 2.5 hours away that wanted him and drove him out there to live his best life.

Johnny on his new farm all grown up

DAVID

David is a Barred Rock. This breed is known as ‘the ideal American chicken’. This was the only breed my mother requested for, reasons. David used to jump on my shoulder and coo in my ear and I loved him so much, but even though he was ‘guaranteed’ to be a hen, he had other plans for his future. The same family took him in and he looks like he got into weighs.

David protecting the flock on his new forever farm

PATRICK

Patrick was my favorite chicken and a Whiting True Green. The Whiting True Greens were developed by that same poultry geneticist, Dr. Tom Whiting that made Roland’s breed. He was specializing in developing feathers for the fly-fishing industry. Patrick was a beautiful reddish copper orange chicken and he decided that he was going to run away to the farm with David as well. The family loved that their names were people names, but they hadn’t watched the show to get the reference. Patrick was so sweet and always the first to greet me and let me pet him. The family told me that he was taken by an owl and was no longer with us. RIP Patrick. You were my first Chicken Schitt love, but Schitt happens.
